Very Short Bio

Alberto Manuel Rodrigues da Silva is Full Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa (IST-UL), and as an Integrated Researcher at INESC-ID Lisboa. With an extensive teaching background, he has taught over 4800 students and supervised more than 10 PhD students, 80 MSc students, and 80 Final-Year Projects students. His research focuses on various areas, including information systems, software engineering, model-driven engineering, requirements engineering, document automation, and project management, with applications in multiple domains. He has authored five technical books and contributed to over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and workshops. Additionally, he has edited five scientific books, further showcasing his expertise in the field. His professional affiliations include being a member of the Portuguese Chartered Engineers Association (OE) and an elected member of its Admission and Qualification Board (CAQ/OE), the Project Management Institute (PMI), and a senior member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He also holds memberships in the QUATIC Series Scientific Steering Committee and the GPSI/APSI, the Working Group for Information Systems Project Management of the Portuguese Association of Information Systems.

Short Bio

Alberto Manuel Rodrigues da Silva is Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DEI), Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa (IST-UL), and Integrated Researcher at INESC-ID Lisboa.
He has the following academic degrees: Habilitation in Computer Science and Engineering, Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering, and Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering, from the Technical University of Lisbon, and a Degree in Informatics Engineering, from the New University of Lisbon.
He has taught courses in undergraduate, master, and doctoral programs. He has been responsible for courses related to requirements engineering, software development processes, information systems analysis, and system modeling; more recently he has been responsible for the courses "Systems Analysis and Modeling" and "IT Project Management", offered respectively at the BSc and MSc programs of IST-UL. He has taught 4800+ students and supervised 10+ PhDs, 80+ MSc, and 80+ Final-Year Projects students.
He has researched information systems, software engineering, model-driven engineering, requirements engineering, document automation, and project management, and their application in multiple domains. He has coordinated and participated in several R&D projects, including EU, FCT, PRIME, CYTED or bilateral projects, in particular: QualiChain (H2020), RiverCure (FCT), RSLingo4Privacy (FCT/CMU-Portugal), DataStorm (FCT), Timbus (FP7), ProjectIT (POSC/EIA, FCT); GestBarragens (PRIME); AgentSpace, COSMOS (ESPRIT), WebStatEdu (Bilateral DAPP/Ministério Educação); SCREEN (ACTS), SRV-SerraEstrela (Bilateral CM-Seia), TT-MDE-Mindbury (Bilateral Mindbury), qDocs (Bilateral MDSS), SRS-COFAP (INA), Cons-SIGA-SNS (ACSS), GeoPortalCTT (CTT). 
He was partner and director of the company SIQUANT, having coordinated several projects, highlighting the virtual reality system of Serra da Estrela and of Sintra Cascais Natural Park, the Trails and Interpretation Portal, or the GestBarragens, a dams safety management system largely adopted by Portugal and Angola authorities. He also participated in other business initiatives and other projects in the area of information technologies.
He served the academia in multiple management roles, namely as Director of the BSc (LEIC-A), MSc (MEIC), and Ph.D. (DEIC) programs of Computer Science and Computer Engineering at IST; co-founder and coordinator/leader of the Information Systems Research Group and the Information and Decision Support Systems Lab at INESC-ID. He is currently the Research Area Coordinator of the IDSS (Information and Decision Support Systems) of INESC-ID (involving 20+ Ph.D. researchers).
He has authored five (5) technical books and 200+ publications in journals, conferences, and workshops with peer review, and he has edited five (5) scientific books. He received the following awards or professional certifications: JEEP, Scrum Master, PMP, and IST Excellent Teaching, and was included in the list of the 2% of scientists with the most influential career in 2021 by Stanford University.
He is vice-president of the CS03/IPQ (Comissão Sectorial para a Qualidade nas Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicações do Instituto Português da Qualidade). He is a member of the OE (Portuguese Chartered Engineers Association) and elected member of its Admission and Qualification Board (CAQ/OE), PMI (Project Management Institute), and senior member of the ACM (Association of Computer Machinery).
